ANU's Internet Futures group |
|
|
Mission: to look ahead and investigate potential and emerging network-based services and applications that support the University's missions in education and research, to develop skills in these technologies, and to support users to make early use of them. The IF group is strongly user-focussed, with most of its activities coming from collaborations with various user communities around the ANU, and they are guided by those users needs. Examples include Astronomy, BioInformatics, Physics and Language Studies. Some technology-initiated projects are also being developed, such as Access Grid Nodes, which may have broad applications to various users. The group combines skills from disparate areas of the ANU, including network engineers, large scale computation and data-archive researchers, and visualisation and telecollaboration (advanced videoconferencing) specialists. It also interfaces with various relevant groups at the ANU, and can bring in additional skills as needed. If you have a need or interest in network-based technologies to support your research or teaching, or are developing new technologies in these areas, then please consider collaborating with us. Have a look at the current overview of our activities, on this website [which we are just now populating]. They are not a complete list of our interests, but are the areas that we have started working on. You can contact us via email at this stage. Funding for the IF comes from the ANU, GrangeNet - Grid And Next GEneration Network, and APAC - the Australian Partnership for Advanced Computing |
